Improving Patient Services Through Digital Transformation In Auditing

Sunderland Royal Hospital has implemented MyAudit, an electronic auditing system that has replaced their previous paper-based auditing system. Their digital transformation in auditing has brought about several benefits that have improved the efficiency and effectiveness of the hospital's auditing process.

The previous paper-based auditing system had several limitations, including the difficulty of tracking and analysing data, identifying trends, and measuring compliance with industry standards. The paper-based system was also time-consuming and prone to errors, leading to delays in addressing issues and potential risks.

Benedict Okundaye, Domestic Supervisor, said “With the National Standards (of Healthcare Cleanliness), a lot of the requirements needs you to be responsive and not having a digital platform put in place like we have with MyAudit, it would have been difficult (to adhere to the standards)”. He along with the staff at the hospital have noticed the benefits of having MyAudit as “it became easier and more effective for us to carry out audits”.

Since the implementation , the hospital has instant access to the data and trends to allow them to plan ahead. Rachael Hutchinson, Deputy Head of Facilities at CHoICE Facilities Services, said “Now at any time of the day, we can look on a screen, we know exactly what audits we need to carry out, when they will elapse, when they’ll become out of date. We know who’s out there physically doing an audit and we can see results as soon as the audit is completed. It’s made such a difference to the team that they know exactly what their workload is for the coming week”.

The system provides real-time data and analytics that can be used to identify areas of improvement and track progress over time. This data can be accessed by hospital staff and management, enabling them to make data-driven decisions and take action to improve patient care. They now have ability to generate reports quickly and easily. These reports can be used to demonstrate compliance with the new standards, making it easier for the hospital to maintain high quality patient services.

Rachael invites others to see MyAudit in action at Sunderland Royal Hospital, “Come and see it actually working, follow our audit team and see it in practice because I think only then will you realise how easy it is to use”.
